Overview
This post attracts individuals who are new to care. You will receive support to complete the Band 3 competencies and progress into a Band 3 role within 6 months upon successful completion of all required competencies; until then, you will be placed at a Band 2 salary.
Position
At Whipps Cross we are a friendly and forward‑thinking team who nurture our staff so that they can be the best version of themselves. This role enables you to see all aspects of maternity care from booking a new pregnancy through to the postnatal period. You will work alongside passionate midwives whilst building rapport with women and their families and obtaining real job satisfaction.
We are looking for dynamic, enthusiastic maternity assistants to join our team of community midwives at Barts Health, Whipps Cross Hospital.
We provide maternity services to approximately 4,900 women a year and accommodate our women in very modern, up‑to‑date facilities. We have a co‑located midwifery‑led unit and are working towards integration of the community midwifery services.
Recruitment Process
As part of the recruitment process for this post, candidates will be required to complete an online literacy and numeracy test and, only if they pass this, will they be invited to a formal interview.
Responsibilities
* Assist with the care of women under the direction and supervision of midwifery‑trained staff in the hospital and community.
* Work with the midwifery team to support women in pregnancy and the postnatal period, helping them make healthy choices for themselves and their babies.
* Carry out assigned tasks involving direct care of mothers and babies, in support of and under the general supervision of the midwife.
* Support the midwife in providing antenatal and postnatal support to individual mothers and small groups of women.
* Be expected to be rotated to all areas within maternity, including some weekend and evening commitments as required by service demand.
Qualifications
* Must successfully complete an online literacy and numeracy assessment.
* Basic knowledge of maternity care is desirable but not required; on‑the‑job training will be provided.
