Job Summary
They are seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join their expanding consultancy. The position is primarily based at their Cardiff office, but might also require a willingness to travel. The successful candidate will form part of a team of engineers, geologists and environmental scientists who are part of the larger engineering group of civil and structural engineers. They specialise in identifying, quantifying, and reducing abnormal costs to developments at an early stage and provide effective holistic solutions for a range of geotechnical, environmental, and waste management issues for both commercial and private clients. The successful candidate should have at least 2 years of relevant post-graduate experience and should be able to demonstrate a proven track record relating to the management and reporting of contaminated land, geotechnical and civil engineering site investigations. Knowledge and/or experience in remediation and verification work will also be beneficial.
The responsibilities for this position will include, but are not limited to the following:
• Writing of Phase 1 and Phase 2 reports;
• Design, set up and management of site investigations, including logging of soils and rocks;
• Management of site-based sub-contractors;
• Recording and interpretation of site data;
• Scheduling of chemical and geotechnical testing;
• DQRAs; and,
• Preparation of generic and site-specific health and safety risk assessments.
Qualifications
1. Experience with the use of borehole software such as HoleBase/AGS.
2. Excellent MS Word and Excel skills, as well as a basic knowledge of CAD.
3. Strong communication and report writing.
4. Applicants should have membership of a professional organisation such as the Geological Society or CIWEM, ideally working towards Chartered Status.
5. A relevant Masters’ degree may be beneficial either within geological or environmental science.
