Technical Safety Engineer – Oil and Gas, Chemical, Distillery and Alternative Energy – UK
Description
Risktec Solutions, part of the TÜV Rheinland Group, seeks a Technical Safety Engineer with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience to conduct qualitative and quantitative risk and safety studies. The role will be based at one of our UK offices (Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Warrington, London) and may involve travel around the UK and abroad. Hybrid working (remote & onsite in Northwest England or Cumbria) is available.
Responsibilities
* Deliver and potentially lead technical safety projects nationally and internationally, covering a wide range of facilities, plants, processes and operations.
* Develop safety cases, HSE Management System, ALARP, SIMOPS, hazard identification and assessment techniques, including HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, Bowtie assessments.
* Conduct functional safety analyses such as FSA, FMECA, Fault Tree Analysis.
* Model fire, explosion and toxic gas consequences using specialist software (PHAST, FRED).
* Perform QRA and other technical safety studies (BRA, EERA, ESSA, FERA, Facility Siting Studies) using commercial software (SAFETI, SHEPHERD).
* Handle large‑scale CFD projects using HPC and cloud computing.
* Carry out RAM studies, DSEAR, ATEX, hazardous area classification, human factors and safety culture assessments.
* Plan and manage projects, write proposals and coordinate bids.
Qualifications
* Relevant science or engineering degree.
* Minimum of 3 years of experience in technical safety consulting.
* Strong analytical thinking, numerical skills, written and verbal communication.
* Broad experience in Oil & Gas, Chemical, Distillery or Alternative Energy sectors; a specialism is expected but not mandatory.
