Job Description
ROLE PURPOSE:
The Senior Teacher is a senior academic practitioner responsible for delivering high-quality teaching, supporting the Director of Studies with academic administration and quality assurance, and contributing to inspection readiness and staff development across one or more centres.
The role operates within centre governance under the Director of Studies and Centre Manager, supporting the academic strategy, safeguarding culture, and accreditation standards.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching & Academic Delivery:
* Deliver a minimum of 20 teaching hours per week, subject to centre needs.
* Plan, deliver and assess lessons in line with course requirements and learning outcomes.
* Maintain accurate attendance records and academic documentation.
* Conduct testing, tutorials and progress reviews.
* Contribute to curriculum development and material design.
* Model and maintain professional teaching standards in line with accreditation frameworks.
* Participate in observation cycles, feedback processes and academic reviews.
* Support induction and orientation activities for students.
Academic Administration & Systems:
* Maintain CLASS records, registers and student documentation.
* Prepare certificates, academic communication and testing materials.
* Support inductions and placement processes.
* Monitor teaching resources and support stock ordering.
* Assist other centres with academic administrative tasks when required.
* Ensure academic records are inspection-ready.
Quality Assurance & Inspection Readiness:
* Support inspection and accreditation preparation.
* Maintain documentation including lesson plans, qualifications and records.
* Participate in internal academic audits and quality reviews.
* Support corrective action following inspections.
* Ensure compliance with attendance, assessment and reporting processes.
Leadership & Support:
* Support less experienced teachers through mentoring and guidance.
* Contribute to CPD delivery and staff development.
* Deputise for the Director of Studies when required.
* Model and professional standards across academic teams.
* Contribute to academic innovation and continuous improvement.
Safeguarding & Welfare:
* Promote safeguarding within teaching practice.
* Support student welfare and classroom behaviour management.
* Escalate concerns in line with centre safeguarding procedures.
* Comply with Prevent Duty and safeguarding policies.
* Support a safe, inclusive learning environment.
Governance & Accountability:
The Senior Teacher is accountable to the Director of Studies for academic delivery, quality assurance and inspection readiness. The Centre Manager retains overall responsibility for safeguarding, compliance, accommodation oversight and centre operations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (Essential)
* CELTA or equivalent (Essential)
* DELTA/DipTESOL (desirable)
* MA TESOL (desirable)
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE:
* Min 3 years experience teaching in language schools.
* Proven academic quality awareness.
* Ability to support and mentor staff.
* Strong record-keeping and administration skills.
* Experience with testing and assessment.
* Confidence using classroom technology.
* High level of professionalism.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:
* British Council / accreditation inspection experience.
* Teacher development and mentoring.
* Curriculum design experience.
* Understanding of business operations in ELT.
