Job responsibilities
The post holder will work in their specialty setting at Mersey and West Lancashire NHS Trust. The role involves advanced clinical assessment and treatment of spinal cord injured patients with complex presentations within the specialist field of clinical practice. The post holder is expected to: read and provide highly specialist weaning and ventilatory advice for patients admitted with SCI; work closely with the respiratory and multi‑disciplinary teams, including community‑based teams, liaising with spinal medical consultants and case management; develop and enhance evidence‑based respiratory practice and ventilatory care; lead clinical education and training; identify appropriate rehabilitation or care pathways; promote a clinical environment that supports high‑quality patient care and high standards of service delivery.
Qualifications
- Diploma / Degree in Physiotherapy or Nursing
- HCPC/NMC registered
- Membership or participation in special interest groups or networks
- Masters Degree or equivalent experience relevant to the area of Clinical Practice
- Post registration experience in the specialist field
- Completed a suitable communications course
Knowledge & Experience
- Significant demonstrable experience of working in an acute care setting, including senior level team management
- Demonstrable specialist expertise underpinned by theory through CPD
- Excellent clinical reasoning and clinical decision‑making skills
- Knowledge of clinical risk management and governance
Skills & Abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including negotiation and persuasion
- Evidence of involvement in development of care programmes, protocols and guidelines
- Knowledge of tracheostomy, invasive ventilation, NIV therapy, CPAP and related care
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy
- Effective decision‑making and interpretation of diagnostic tests
- Build rapport with colleagues, patients and relatives
- Strong leadership and team‑building skills
- Initiative and ability to work autonomously or as part of a team
- Capacity to manage demanding and challenging workloads
Other
- Perform intricate physical procedures such as arterial blood gas sampling and chest physiotherapy
Contract and Working Pattern
Permanent; part‑time (pro rata)
Salary
£57,528 to £64,750 per annum, pro rata
