In partnership with local schools, we are proud to run our National Teaching Assistant Programme, supporting individuals who wish to begin or develop their career as a Teaching Assistant. We are currently working with a friendly and inclusive mainstream primary school in the London Borough of Hounslow, rated Good by Ofsted, who are seeking a Trainee Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a supportive primary school setting, working with pupils across EYFS, Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2, and helping children thrive both academically and socially. The Programme Working alongside our partner schools, we provide successful unqualified Teaching Assistants with high-quality training and paid on-the-job experience. Following a successful interview and pending suitability, safeguarding and identity checks, we will work to secure you a paid placement in a local school, where you can build your classroom experience and develop your skills. You will also receive ongoing support from a dedicated Smart Teachers consultant. Before starting your placement, you will complete a training programme delivered by Smart Teachers and experienced school leaders, equipping you with the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to succeed as a Teaching Assistant. The Role The role of a Teaching Assistant is vital to the smooth running of a primary school. Successful candidates are enthusiastic, patient and able to build strong relationships with pupils and staff. In this role, you will: Support the class teacher with lessons and classroom activities Work with small groups of pupils or provide one-to-one support Help maintain a positive and engaging learning environment Assist with classroom organisation and learning resources Support pupils who may need additional help with their learning Encourage pupils’ confidence, independence and participation About the school The school is a welcoming and community-focused primary setting with a strong emphasis on inclusion, respect and pupil wellbeing.
