Overview
The Year 1 Teacher will provide high-quality, engaging, and nurturing teaching to children aged 5-6 years in line with the National Curriculum and the school's values. This role involves planning and delivering lessons that stimulate and challenge pupils while fostering a love of learning, especially in reading, writing, maths, phonics, and creative development.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan and deliver lessons across all KS1 subjects aligned with curriculum objectives and the year overview for Year 1.
* Promote active participation and engagement through varied teaching strategies, games, and visual aids suitable for young learners.
* Provide one-to-one support to pupils needing additional help to meet developmental milestones.
* Foster a positive classroom environment supporting students' social, emotional, and academic growth.
* Assess, mark, and track pupils’ progress regularly, providing feedback and tailored interventions.
* Maintain effective communication with parents via newsletters, progress reports, and meetings to support children's success and well-being.
* Uphold school policies, including behaviour management, safeguarding, and inclusion.
* Collaborate with staff and leadership to support able, gifted, talented, and special needs pupils.
* Fulfil pastoral responsibilities for the assigned class, coordinating with teaching assistants and support staff.
* Encourage participation in extracurricular activities and school events relevant to Year 1.
Person Specification - Essential
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
* Experience teaching EYFS/KS1 (especially Year 1) preferred.
* Strong understanding of child development impacting 5-6 year olds' learning.
* Ability to plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons for diverse learners.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with children, parents, and colleagues.
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
* Enthusiasm for promoting reading, phonics, maths, and a broad curriculum.
* Strong organisational skills with positive classroom behaviour management.
