We’re recruiting a Head of Corporate Underwriting to lead UK corporate credit underwriting within a well-established financial services organisation operating in the corporate, asset and structured lending space. This is a senior leadership role for an experienced underwriting professional who can manage and develop an underwriting team, hold delegated lending authority, and provide strong credit oversight across dealer, fleet and corporate portfolios. You’ll play a critical role in maintaining portfolio quality, strengthening risk frameworks, and supporting sustainable business growth. The chosen candidate will have end-to-end responsibility for corporate credit underwriting operations across the UK. You’ll balance commercial awareness with robust risk management, ensuring regulatory compliance while enabling the business to grow responsibly. You’ll be a confident credit decision-maker with the gravitas to challenge, influence and lead at senior level, including presenting complex or high-value exposures to global credit committees. Key responsibilities Lead UK corporate credit underwriting operations across dealer, fleet and corporate portfolios, ensuring performance targets and KPIs are achieved Exercise delegated lending authority and make sound, commercially-balanced credit decisions Review and present significant or complex credit exposures to senior and global credit committees Oversee risk assessments for new products and structures in line with internal risk frameworks Identify early warning indicators and proactively manage underperforming or high-risk credits Ensure adherence to internal credit policies and external regulatory requirements Drive continuous improvement in underwriting processes, governance and decision-making frameworks Build strong working relationships with senior stakeholders across Risk, Commercial and Operations Lead, mentor and develop an experienced team of corporate credit underwriters and analysts Candidate profile This role will suit someone currently leading or ready to lead a corporate underwriting function, ideally from a captive finance, asset finance, automotive, fleet, wholesale or similar lending environment. You’ll bring: Extensive experience in corporate and/or asset-based credit underwriting Proven capability in managing and developing underwriting teams Demonstrable experience operating with delegated lending authority Strong understanding of large corporate credit portfolios and complex lending structures A balanced approach to risk, combining commercial judgement with strong governance Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills at senior level Confidence operating in regulated environments with robust compliance expectations Professional qualifications in economics, finance or a related discipline (desirable) Why join?
