Job Summary
The post-holder supports the smooth running of GP clinics by performing routine administration and clinical tasks, freeing up the GP to focus on patient care. This is a part‑time vacancy of 7.5 hours per week.

Bolton GP Federation is a collective vehicle where the Bolton GP practices collaborate to deliver primary care. We are rated Good by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and provide Primary Care Networks, Extended Primary Care, an Experienced Nurse Network and the Covid Vaccination Programme.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
* Reviewing and coding clinical correspondence and prioritising actions for the GP.
* Signposting correspondence to team members such as clinical pharmacists.
* Arranging appointments, referrals, letters, tests and follow‑up appointments for patients.
* Preparing patients before seeing the GP – taking a brief history and basic readings.
* Performing dipping urine, taking blood pressure, ECGs, phlebotomy and vaccinations within competences.
* Completing basic (non‑opinion) forms and core elements for GP approval and signatures.
* Explaining treatment procedures to patients.
* Assisting the GP in liaising with outside agencies (e.g., arranging on‑call doctors).
Person Specification
Experience
Essential
* Carry out clinical, technical, scientific or administrative duties according to established protocols.
* Ability to work well under pressure.
* Strong organisational skills.
* IT literacy.
* Willingness to work flexibly across multiple sites.
* Good understanding of confidentiality.
* Basic factual knowledge of the field of work.
* Excellent communication skills.
Desirable
* Previous experience in primary care or a similar NHS setting.
* Experience as a General Practice Assistant.
* Experience with electronic patient records, particularly EMIS Web.
* Previous experience working one‑to‑one with patients.
Qualifications
Essential
* English & Maths GCSE (or equivalent).
Desirable
* HCA training or equivalent.
* Practice receptionist training.
* Care Certificate.
* NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care.
