JOB DESCRIPTION
A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF
I am an 8-year-old boy with autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) and sensory processing disorder (SPD) living with my mum and siblings in Tonypandy, Rhondda Cynon Taff. I can present some challenging behaviours. I am non-verbal but can say some phrases and use my hands to ask for what I want. Sometimes I like to run away from people who are looking after me, so my safety is important, especially when crossing roads. Changes and sensory overload can overwhelm me, particularly when meeting new people; it might take me a little longer to trust someone new. When I am distressed, I sometimes head-butt the floor and have been known to hit out on occasion. Despite the challenges I face, I am a happy and funny character who is learning to self-regulate with the help of my mum.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To support me out in the community whilst ensuring my safety.
HOURS OF WORK
I have 4 hours per week to be used to support me within the community.
RATES OF PAY
Meets NMW
TASKS CAN INCLUDE
1. Ensuring I am safe at all times
2. Providing simplified instructions
3. Finding activities for us to do that you think I might enjoy
4. Making sure I am safe and secure
5. Sticking to a structure
6. Personal care
7. Helping me to be settled, calm, and well-grounded during school holidays so that I feel safe and secure with changes
8. Support working towards a long-term goal such as swimming

ABOUT THE JOB
Although this is a part-time job, it will be a proper job requiring a National Insurance number to be submitted. A trial period will be necessary in the first instance. The salary will be paid on a monthly basis and appropriate holiday pay given.
The post is subject to a probationary period and a DBS (Police) Check.
