Position Overview
An indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Apollo Management Holdings, AASP manages the securitized products and structured finance assets sourced and serviced by ATLAS SP Partners while serving as their sole risk manager.
The Role
As the Risk Management Director, you will be the lead risk manager on ATLAS Aircraft and the broader Transportation (Rail, Shipping, Container, etc.) lending and capital markets portfolio. This role involves bespoke underwrites, including older aircraft, green time engines, part-out structures, back-leverage for sponsor portfolio, etc. The portfolio will require increased monitoring and oversight, especially for asset classes not tested through the cycle or under stress.
You will work closely with the origination teams, risk leaders, and clients to evaluate credit risk in transactions. Your analysis and independent views will be relied upon by senior risk officers to approve transactions. You will develop strong partnerships with deal teams to align with the firm’s risk appetite and enhance the credit risk team’s review culture.
Managing multiple projects with analytical support, your asset class coverage will evolve with deal volume. Deep expertise in analyzing assets, structural protections, and sponsor/originator financials is required. You should be capable of managing challenging collateral and enforcement provisions.
The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in securitized products and warehouse lending, with significant experience in aircraft or transportation sectors, and strong communication skills.
Responsibilities
* Risk manage all aircraft and transportation transactions.
* Conduct comprehensive analyses, identify risks early, challenge deal teams, and develop expertise across asset classes, utilizing internal and external resources. Credit work includes evaluating asset pools and key parties involved.
* Form independent views, document succinct risk memos, challenge senior teams, and participate in deal structuring from inception through the lifecycle, especially for higher risk or bespoke assets. Document thorough market, borrower, and collateral analysis.
* Collaborate with Legal and deal teams on legal documents, ensuring accuracy of deal structures and terms.
* Act as a self-sufficient risk manager, with authority to approve transactions, and present findings to Investment Committees, providing recommendations and managing discussions.
* Work with Risk Analytics to develop new risk views and tools as needed.
Qualifications & Experience
* Strong knowledge of aviation and transportation assets, with experience in underwriting asset values and conducting credit analysis, especially for less liquid or bespoke assets.
* Ability to work closely with origination, portfolio management, and structuring teams on structured warehouse facilities.
* Solution-oriented with a solid risk foundation, understanding commercial needs and balancing them with risk controls.
* Excellent analytical skills, multi-asset experience, and experience building risk management tools.
* Extensive financial analysis, cash flow modeling, and understanding of credit risk management systems.
* Knowledge of ABS securitization rating agency methodologies.
* Meticulous with credit memoranda and cash flow scenario analysis.
* Experience making critical financial decisions and presenting to investment committees.
* Exceptional communication skills, capable of explaining complex risk concepts clearly.
* Ability to synthesize information from various sources and stay ahead of market trends.
