Building Product Design is a renowned leader in the fields of roofing ventilation, construction membranes, building ventilation, and specialised building products. Known for their expertise and excellence, they operate two UK manufacturing sites that offer extensive manufacturing and finishing services. Additionally, they boast industry-leading research and development, along with in-house product testing.
About the role:
We are looking for a skilled welder/fabricator to cut and join metals and other materials at our facilities or construction sites.
You will operate appropriate equipment to put together mechanical structures or parts with a great deal of precision. Your job is important as it provides the foundation for strong infrastructure.
You must be competent in using potentially dangerous equipment following all safety precautions. The ideal candidate will also have a steady hand and great attention to detail. Knowledge of different kinds of metal and their properties is essential.
You will be given any required training and be provided with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to make sure you can work safely and effectively.
Main Responsibilities
* Read drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and check quality
* Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
* Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g., cut material with powered saws to match measurements)
* Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded
* Align components using jigs, callipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces
* Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions
* Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps
* Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
* Weld multiple metals from aluminium to mild steel
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 4.30pm
About you
Essential
* Proven experience as welder
* Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MIG etc.)
* Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, callipers etc.)
* Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
* Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.)
* Possess an attention to detail
* Welding Certification required and the successful applicant will be asked to provide evidence of this
Desirable
* 5S experience to help in bay and tool organisation
* Ability to drop into the maintenance department and help with and machine break down fabrication requirements
* Ability to weld cast materials
