The Director, Marketplace – Ground is the end-to-end economic and experiential owner of the Ground category (Rail, Car, and Emerging Mobility).
This leader defines category strategy, growth priorities, partner value proposition (in partnership with GBP), and customer experience standards — ensuring the Marketplace delivers measurable revenue, margin, and client value outcomes within Ground.
This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for building and scaling a complex, multi-supplier category within a unified Marketplace model.
What You’ll Do
Own Ground Category Strategy & Economic Performance
* Define long-term Ground strategy including Rail, Car, and mobility adjacencies
* Establish category growth priorities and competitive positioning
* Own revenue growth, margin improvement, attach rate, and supplier performance
* Identify whitespace opportunities and new areas of investment
Drive Product & Experience Excellence
* Define end-to-end Ground booking and servicing experience standards
* Prioritize product enhancements across web, mobile, and assisted channels
* Ensure Ground integrates seamlessly within broader trip flows
* Align category UX with Marketplace-wide personalization and value frameworks
Partner Strategy & Commercial Alignment
* Define partner strategy in collaboration with Global Business Partnerships
* Drive alignment between commercial commitments and product delivery
* Ensure supplier performance meets Marketplace objectives
* Coordinate partner launches and commercial programs
Collaborate Across Marketplace
* Work with Marketplace Value to align on optimization logic and value metrics
* Partner with Platform & Engineering to translate category needs into scalable capabilities
* Coordinate with Solutions and Commercial teams on go-to-market readiness
* Align roadmap commitments with 180-day planning cycles
Translate Strategy into Measurable Outcomes
* Establish clear success metrics and accountability structures
* Convert category objectives into marketplace-level impact
* Drive execution discipline and delivery predictability
What We’re Looking For
* 10+ years of product leadership experience in travel, marketplace, platform, or multi-sided ecosystems
* Demonstrated ownership of revenue-driving product portfolios
* Strong commercial acumen with ability to align product and partnership strategy
* Experience scaling fragmented supplier ecosystems preferred
* Proven ability to influence across engineering, commercial, and operational teams
* Strong data-driven decision-making capability
* Experience building and leading high-performing product teams
* Executive presence with ability to operate at strategic and tactical levels

Compensation
The US national base salary range for this position is from $130,200.00 - $241,800.00. The national range provides the base salary Amex GBT expects to pay for the role. Actual base salary will be based on factors including the scope and complexity of the role and the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and work location.
In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, which rewards participants based on company and individual performance and is also eligible for awards under our Equity Incentive Plan.
