About the role
Working closely with colleagues across the facilities and people teams you’ll help create a healthy and safe place in which all our people can work, develop and grow. In your national role you’ll ensure the firm's policies and procedures are applied across our offices, maintain accurate health and safety compliance records, create and monitor annual health and safety objectives, and carry out regular audits, making recommendations for improvements as required, and with the opportunity to work on strategic national projects.
You’ll need to keep up-to-speed with any legal and best practice developments, keep your skills and knowledge up to date with regular training, and be part of the firms incident response team (IRT).
Through regular liaison with external suppliers for occupational health, compliance training, assessment and equipment provision you’ll ensure our people are able to work safely and effectively. You’ll also be comfortable designing and delivering training on health and safety compliance and best practice.
Supporting a network of H&S appointed persons across our 31 national offices, you will need to forge trusted relationships and provide timely advice.
The role will combine hybrid working between a local office base, some home working and regular travel across the RSM UK offices (England, Scotland and NI).

About you
You will be someone with a keen eye for detail, with a relentless desire to ensure that we remain safe and compliant across our firm. You will have shown in your previous roles that you are vigilant and always work to high standards following process and regulations to ensure that compliance is maintained at all times. You will have an understanding of how health and safety fits within the wellbeing strategy of the firm, and will have previous experience working with occupational health, other external advisors or internal departments to ensure a thorough service is delivered.
About the job
In this role you your primary responsibilities will be to ensure:
* all Health & Safety policies, procedures, rules, and regulations are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated, and communicated as required;
* you support the development and delivery of the firm's health and safety objectives and plans;
* all new starters are inducted in health & safety procedures for their relevant office – including homeworkers;
* the firm meets its statutory obligations in all areas relating to health, safety, and welfare at work;
* the completion and regular review of risk assessments for all work equipment and operations;
* all accidents are documented, investigated, and recommended improvements implemented;
* planned and ad hoc safety inspections are conducted, including fire drills and fire alarms are correctly completed and recorded, safety inspections, risk assessments and lone working procedures are monitored and reviewed, and employees are aware of their responsibilities;
* maintenance and continuous development of health & safety policies, systems of work and procedures takes place in conjunction with RSM’s people team;
* a full programme of documented health & safety inspections, audits, and checks takes place across all RSM UK offices;
* you consult with external health & safety consultants and specialist providers as required for the provision of training programmes and health and safety services;
* that all agreed action points and related facility requests are completed within deadlines;
* you partner with colleagues in facilities, procurement and the people team to work on strategic projects that support the health, safety and wellbeing of our people throughout the firm;
* you keep up to date with all aspects of relevant health, safety & welfare at work legislation and communicate relevant changes to the business and the appointed persons network with recommendations;
* reports are provided as required to the national leadership team and RSM board on relevant health and safety activities;
* you participate in any meetings (ad-hoc or regular) when required to report on relevant health & safety matters in operations and all other parts of the business where required;
* you consult with suppliers i.e., insurers, solicitors etc and on all H&S/training matters.
Requirements
The role has the following essential requirements:
* Experience of working autonomously
* Ability to liaise with and manage stakeholders at all levels
* Excellent written and spoken communication skills
* Relevant NEBOSH (National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety)Willingness and ability to travel throughout the UK
* At least 3-5 years of experience in a similar role
* Experience of auditing and conducting incident investigations
* Excellent organisational skills
* Excellent advisory/client service skills
* Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken
* Ability to collaborate, work as part of a team and within the wider organisation
* Passionate about health, safety and wellbeing
It would be great if you also had:
* Experience of professional or financial services environment
* Experience of working in a multi-sited environment/role
* Membership of IOSH or IIRSM
* Ability to make decisions and set priorities
* Great attention to detail
* Experience of fire risk management
* Experience with ISO 45001 and/or quality management systems
