Rotational Physiotherapist - Medical & Surgical
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Physiotherapist to join our established inpatient Medical/Surgical Senior Rotation. You will rotate in 9‑month blocks across specialties including Stroke and Neurosciences, Older Person Medicine, Acute Medicine, Critical Care, Respiratory Medicine and other acute surgical areas. The role requires dynamic, proactive, and enthusiastic support of patients during acute illness, post‑operative recovery, and acute respiratory care, with a caseload that may include complex communication needs.
You will work with highly specialised Physiotherapists and support staff to deliver varied physiotherapy services. You will also support the Respiratory weekend and on‑call rota, refining skills in acute decision‑making, emergency treatment planning, and respiratory care that integrates medical and therapeutic knowledge.
Main duties of the job
In this role you will support the supervision of junior staff, assistants, and students, delegating workload as appropriate. You will have opportunities to support in‑house teaching programmes and external teaching through our partnership with the University of East Anglia.
Supervision and annual appraisal are provided, and you will play an active role in your own professional development. Opportunities exist for involvement in research and service development, including poster presentations at conferences.
Job responsibilities
As a Band 6 rotational Physiotherapist you will prioritise and manage your own caseload of patients and provide supervision to junior colleagues, assistants, and students. You will play an active role in team development, service delivery, and evaluation. Participation in out‑of‑hours work and responsibility for acutely ill patients requiring physiotherapeutic intervention is expected. You will support junior staff to develop necessary skills for on‑call and weekend duties, and you will maintain a presence in the daily operational and clinical management of the team.
Physiotherapy student placements will be supported actively by your involvement.
The rotations are nine months in length and consist of the following specialties:
* Critical Care
* Medical Respiratory
* Thoracic Surgery
* Vascular Surgery
* Renal and Cardiology
* Acute Admission Unit and Short Stay
* Older Persons Medicine
* Mixed Orthopaedic Trauma (fragility fractures and polytrauma)
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Diploma/degree in Physiotherapy
* Registration with the Health Professions Council (UK)
Experience
* Postgraduate experience as a Physiotherapist with broad‑based rotational opportunities
* Experience supervising students or physiotherapy assistants
Skills
* Proven clinical skills required to undertake on‑call and weekend working
