Joseph Walker founded Walker’s Shortbread when he opened his bakery in the Speyside village of Aberlour in 1898 where Walker’s remains to this day. Now it is Joseph’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren that continue the tradition of fine baking that he started. The founder’s personal guarantee is still marked on every pack to confirm that Walker’s products are made with only the finest ingredients.
We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Packaging Technologist to join our close-knit team. The successful candidate will work alongside our existing Supplier Approval team members.
This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in ensuring the highest standards across our ingredients and packaging, working with suppliers, and collaborating closely with our internal teams.
This is a full time, permanent role. 38 hours per week (8am–4:30pm Mon - Th / 8am–2:30pm Fri), 5 days in the office would be preferable however hybrid would be considered.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Approve and monitor packaging suppliers and specifications to meet quality standards.
* Review GFSI accreditation and provide input into NPD/EPD packaging sourcing.
* Liaise with labs and collaborate with procurement on supplier approvals.
* Keep up to date with global packaging legislation, retailer codes of practice, and certification standards.
What we're looking for:
* A degree or diploma in Food Science or Packaging Technology (or a related field).
* Ideally 3–5 years’ experience, though we’re open to those earlier in their career who can demonstrate passion and capability.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with suppliers and colleagues.
* Excellent attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
* Knowledge of food/packaging legislation, labelling requirements, and certification standards (BRC, FSSC22000) is an advantage.
