IT Cyber Security Engineer

As a Global Digital Exemplar Fast Follower, it's an exciting time at Milton Keynes University Hospital. We're on a journey to become a state-of-the-art digital hospital, and we're looking for an IT Cyber Security Engineer to join us.

In this role, you'll be part of a friendly multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. You'll work with staff across the organisation and collaborate with a range of external partners. Your work will be crucial in maintaining the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of our IT infrastructure.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

o Continuously assess and maintain the security of IT infrastructure & systems.

o Monitor systems for signs of security breaches and investigate alerts.o Provide technical security support and guidance to users.o Assist with IT audits and compliance reporting.

What We're Looking For

o Proven experience in maintaining the security of IT infrastructure, including firewalls, network switches, servers, VM environments, client machines, and cloud services.o Proficiency in security-related software and tools, understanding of secure network architectures, experience with encryption and security protocols, and familiarity with threat modelling and risk assessments.o Relevant certifications such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) or equivalent are highly desirable.o Strong analytical skills to identify security threats and implement effective solutions.o Ability to explain complex security issues to non-technical staff and provide security training and awareness.o Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team and collaborating with a range of external partners.

Person Specification


Qualifications and knowledge

* Understanding of Information Security principles.
* Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) or Security + Certification
* Industry standard IT qualifications e.g. Microsoft, Cisco, ITIL
* Knowledge of the Data Protection Act


Experience

* A working Knowledge of Health Computing Systems or a similar large organisation and data structures.
* Experience with network and switch technologies such as Wi-Fi, VLANs, Routers, Switches, Firewalls etc...
* DHCP, DNS, Active Directory, Group Policy Exchange, and Hyper-V experience
* Experience investigating the latest threats and trends.
* Experience of working with minimum supervision, with the ability to use initiative and experience to present solutions to overcome technically challenging issues
* Proficient in Microsoft Desktop operating systems and applications
* Virtual Server Management
* Experience of Penetration and Vulnerability Testing tools and techniques
* Use of Service Desk Tools and Technologies
* Experience of PowerShell scripting
* Experience with Azure
* Experience with O365

* Analytical and logical approach to problem solving
* Ability to maintain confidentiality of personal information
* Ability to work in a busy environment where continuous interruptions and re-prioritisation of workload is to be expected
* Ability to lead and motivate a team
* Ability to remain calm and composed in high pressure situations

* Able to form good working relationships with staff in the Trust and partner organisations

* Ability to interpret and communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical staff
* Ability to communicate effectively to both clinical and non-clinical staff at all levels throughout the organization
* Requires excellent communication skills both verbal and written and have the ability to communicate effectively, both formally and informally to all levels of staff.


Specific requirements

* Able to perform the duties of the post with reasonable aids and adaptations
* Hold a valid Category B UK Driving License.
