Position Details
Applications are invited for a full-time Consultant Paediatric Haematologist position based at Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital and the Haematology Laboratory at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
Team and Responsibilities
This role offers the opportunity to join a team comprising 1 Consultant Paediatric Haematologist and 3 Paediatric Oncologists, within a broader team of 10 Consultant Haematologists in NHS Grampian. The successful candidate should have expertise in benign and malignant Neonatal and Paediatric Haematology, Laboratory Haematology, and will participate in clinical research. The role includes developing the service aligned with the department's interests, contributing 1 PA weekly to the Adult Haematology Service, and providing Laboratory reporting for 1 PA weekly.
Department Overview
The Haematology Department includes 6 Specialty Trainee posts, 2 Specialty Doctor posts, and support from Paediatric Doctors in Training, Clinical Nurse Specialists, a Data Manager, and a Clinical Research Nurse.
On-Call and Advisory Roles
The post holder will participate in the on-call rota for Paediatric Haematology and Oncology, providing malignant and non-malignant Haematology advice during office hours and on call, including primary and secondary care advice (1 in 5 with prospective cover).
About the Hospital and Service
Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital offers a range of secondary and tertiary specialties and is part of the Managed Service Network for Children and Young People’s Cancer in NHS Scotland. It is located in a dedicated facility adjacent to the Paediatric Medical and Surgical Wards, with regional and national MDT collaboration. The hospital serves a population of approximately 640,000 and features a dedicated Haematology Inpatient Unit, outpatient services, and upcoming facilities like the ANCHOR Centre.
Qualifications and Registration
Applicants trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of GMC Specialist Register entry. Alternatively, applicants may possess CESR / CESR (CP). Non-GMC registered applicants with suitable training and experience may be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months).
Full GMC registration and a license to practice are required before starting.
