Part-Time Financial Controller – Liverpool

About the Opportunity
We are currently seeking an experienced and hands-on Financial Controller to support a Liverpool-based non for profit organisation operating community development sector.
Our client delivers large-scale projects focused on improving local communities, supporting economic growth, and driving long-term social impact across the region. They require immediate part-time finance support from a commercially minded professional who can quickly embed into the business and provide strong financial oversight during a busy operational period.
This is an urgent requirement and would suit someone who is available to start immediately.
The Role
Working closely with senior leadership, you will take ownership of the finance function, ensuring accurate reporting, strong financial controls, and clear commercial insight to support decision-making.
Key responsibilities will include:
* Preparation and review of monthly management accounts and reporting packs
* Cashflow forecasting, budgeting, and financial analysis
* Balance sheet reconciliations and maintenance of ledger integrity
* Reviewing and improving financial controls and internal processes
* Supporting senior stakeholders with commercial and operational insight
About You
You are an experienced Financial Controller with a strong background in supporting growing SMEs. Ideally, you are already operating on a self-employed basis and can commit to at least two days per week, with availability to start in the near term.
You will bring:
* Preparation and review of monthly management accounts and board-level reports
* Balance sheet reconciliations and oversight of ledger integrity
* Cashflow management, forecasting, and profit modelling
* Strong working knowledge of Xero (exposure to Sage 50 and QuickBooks advantageous)
* Experience reviewing and implementing robust financial controls and processes
* A commercially focused mindset with the ability to challenge and support business leaders
* Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, SUMIFS, and financial analysis tools
* Confidence presenting financial and commercial insights to non-financial stakeholders
* Full professional qualification (ACCA/CIMA/ACMA/FCCA/ICAEW) or QBE with 5+ years’ experience
* Previous experience managing or mentoring a finance team
