1 Permanent Post & 1 Fixed Term Post (13 Months) Available

Main duties of the job

1. To lead, deliver, develop and evaluate clinical pharmacy services to the Paediatric Unit in accordance with the Clinical Services guidelines
2. To provide a framework for the safe, efficient and cost effective use of medicine resources within the Paediatric Unit, by the provision of effective ward based services, education and training, procedures, policies and guidelines, and medicines usage information.
3. To develop and maintain highly specialist knowledge in medicines used within Paediatric oncology. To act as a role model for pharmacy in the field and ensure a consistently high pharmaceutical service for the paediatric unit in line with national standards, Trust strategy and the NHS Plan.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

4. Identify any systematic or preventable errors associated with medicines used within the Paediatric Unit and facilitate learning
5. To proactively develop clinical pharmacy services in the paediatric setting in line with local and national objectives including National Service Specification and NICE Improving Outcomes Guidance
6. Facilitate effective communication about relevant pharmacy issues to clinicians and senior managers and the identification of opportunities for the development of pharmacy services to match identified service and care needs
7. To monitor and interpret published evidence in order to implement agreed policies aimed at improving treatment outcome.
8. To develop and maintain drug protocols and treatment guidelines for disease management within the clinical unit, following drug evaluations and drug utilisation review
9. To provide evaluated pharmaceutical information to the Drug and Therapeutics Committee as requested

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria

10. GPhC registration as a Pharmacist
11. MSc/Diploma Pharmacy Practice

Desirable criteria

12. Independent prescribing qualification

Experience

Essential criteria

13. Significant NHS Hospital Pharmacy experience.
14. Oncology Pharmacy experience and/or Paediatric experience
15. DUR and clinical audit experience

Desirable criteria

16. Delivering training to multidisciplinary teams
17. Experience of budget management and directorate support.
18. Experience of working with clinical trials

Skills Abilities/knowledge

Essential criteria

19. Ability to work effectively as part of a team
20. Ability to work alone without direct supervision when required
21. Good time management and organisational skills, ability to prioritise effectively
22. Ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining attention to detail and accuracy
23. Ability to communicate effectively with members of the public and other healthcare professionals
24. Ability to train other members of staff
25. Ability to use Microsoft Office applications eg Word, Excel, Outlook
26. Ability to initiate and implement change

Flu Vaccination – What We Expect of our Staff

At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.

The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
