Main duties of the job
Job Summary
To be responsible for undertaking a wide range of reception dutiesand the provision of general support to the multidisciplinary team. Duties can include, but are not limited to,greeting and directing patients, effective use of the appointment system,booking appointments, the processing of information and assisting patients asrequired.
To act as the central point of contact for patients, beresponsible for the distribution of information, messages and enquiries for theclinical team, liaise with multi-disciplinary team members and externalagencies such as secondary care and community service providers.

Job responsibilities
The following are the coreresponsibilities of the Receptionist. There may be, on occasion, a requirementto carry out other tasks. This will be dependent upon factors such as workloadand staffing levels:
Maintainand monitor the practice appointment system
Processpersonal, telephone and e-requests for appointments
Answerincoming phone calls, transferring calls or dealing with the callers requestappropriately
Signpostpatients to the correct service
Initiatingcontact with and responding to, requests from patients, team members andexternal agencies
Codedata on the clinical IT system
Photocopydocumentation as required
Dataentry of new and temporary registrations and relevant patient information asrequired
Inputdata into patients healthcare records as necessary
Manageall queries as necessary in an efficient manner
Carryout system searches as requested
Monitorand maintain the reception area and notice boards
Supportall clinical staff with general tasks as requested

Scanpatient related documentation and attach scanned documents to patientshealthcare records
Completeopening and closing procedures in accordance with the duty rota
Tosupport in the management of repeat prescriptions, ensuring they are processedaccurately and efficiently
Produce,maintain and participate in the receptionist rota for lunch and out of hourscover
Deputiseand support during periods of absence
Supportreception staff development, providing guidance and direction, ensuring staffare up to date with mandatory training
Identifyand provide team training where required
Supportin producing and maintaining the duty rota
Supportthe Practice Manager with all Patient Participation Group related matters
Supportthe health promotion lead and display promotional material on the allocatednoticed boards and in the waiting room
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Educated to GCSE level or equivalent.
* GCSE Mathematics and English (C or above)
* NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care
Experience
* Experience of working with the general public
* Experience of administrative duties
* Experience of working in a healthcare setting
