What you'll do
As a Smart Meter Technician, you will be responsible for carrying out external smart meter installations and replacements in a fast-paced, target-driven role. Your day will be scheduled via an electronic diary, and you'll be liaising with customers, installing the smart meter, connecting it to the network and closing out the installation by returning meter asset information back into corporate systems by use of Dynamics field services. You'll also be carrying out triage on smart meters to identify connectivity issues and be expected to investigate supply connections to locate a point to install a smart meter and identify the property it feeds.
You will fit each meter to a high standard, ensuring it is fitted correctly to give the customer the best experience possible and ensure we don't have repeat visits. All data will be inputted correctly when closing the work orders to ensure detailed information is returned.
A lot of your day-to-day duties will involve working alone; therefore, you must follow lone worker processes to always ensure safe working. However, you will have the support of the team and Smart Meter Technician Supervisor on hand if needed.
We are a safety-first employer, so you will be expected to follow all our health and safety policies, procedures and best practices. This includes ensuring all available safety measures have been exercised before starting any survey for each incident type.
This role will require you to be part of a 24/7 standby rota for attending customer emergencies related to Smart Metering.
Your role will involve travelling across our region, with our first target area being Salisbury and the surrounding areas. A vehicle will be provided for your travel.
What you'll need
* the ability and confidence to deliver great customer service
* water supply metering experience covering household and non-household activities (not essential as training will be provided)
* experience with working to tight deadlines with a focus on delivery targets
* a ‘can do' approach to learning new work management tools and working on multiple systems
* a well-organised and self-sufficient work ethic
* the ability to work under pressure and resolve issues through good decision-making
* computer literacy, including Microsoft Excel for data entry
* a full driving licence
* a street works card (preferred but not essential)
* a water smart passport/hygiene card (training will be provided)
* manual handling experience (training can be provided)
