Clinical Nurse Specialist - Learning Disabilities

Are you passionate about making a difference for individuals with learning disabilities and autism?

We are looking for a Clinical Nurse Specialist (Learning Disabilities and Autism) to join our growing Safeguarding Department at Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust (BWC). We support flexible working and welcome applications from those seeking full time or part time hours, Monday to Friday.

As part of our Learning Disability and Autism Liaison (LDA) team, you will be able to make a tangible difference for our children, young people, and women with learning disabilities and/or autism. Working within a collaborative and supportive multi-disciplinary team, including clinical psychologists, liaison psychiatrists, and specialist nurses to help shape holistic, person‑centred care at Birmingham Children's Hospital and provide essential support for women accessing services at Birmingham Women's Hospital.


Main duties of the job

As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you'll bring expertise in supporting children, young people, and adults with complex needs, acting as a visible leader in the field of Learning Disabilities and Autism.

The role will provide effective management of the learning disability pathway caseload, to ensure that recovery‑focused, specialist health interventions are delivered effectively.

Job responsibilities

Person Specification


Knowledge and Nature of Experience

* Experience of child protection and teaching and assessing.
* Able to demonstrate significant post registration experience in learning disability/psychiatric care at band 6 level or above.
* Previous experience in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry child health setting
* Experience of working in a community team


Qualifications

* Nursing Qualification RLDN
* Evidence of relevant post basic education to degree level or Specialist qualification in a relevant area of practice.
* Qualifications in child & adolescent psychiatric nursing


Professional/Managerial/Specialist Knowledge

* Able to use IT equipment to produce reports
* Report deaths of LD patients
* Trained in LeDer and Child Death Review


Personal Skills/Abilities and Attributes

* Ability to work as a team member and alone, good administrative and time management skills
* Good report writing skills
* Relating to GP's and other Primary Health Care team members
