Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time| Flexible First options available The role As the Lead Principal Engineer - Cables you will oversee a team of Cable Principal Engineers in the delivery of Alternating Current (AC) and High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) cable work on our transmission network. You will be heavily engaged in both Design and Technical Authority processes. This is a once in a generation opportunity to take part in the development of the Transmission Network in Scotland! You will - Manage a team of Principal Engineers in the delivery of a wide portfolio of AC and HVDC cable work. - Spearhead multi-disciplinary Design Authority reviews of major projects through the lifecycle from development, refinement, construction, commissioning and handover to our Operations team. - As part of the Technical Authority, oversee the review test plans to ensure equipment is properly tested and validated, and assess suppliers and factories for approval for use on the transmission network. - Oversee the management of technical specifications and guidance for all HVDC and High Voltage Alternative Current (HVAC) cables on the Transmission network, including updates based on project lessons and technological advancements. - Undertake site and factory visits to suppliers and installers to inspect facilities. You have - A degree in Electrical Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline and Chartered Engineer status with a relevant institution or working towards achieving Chartered Engineer status. - A high degree of technical expertise and strong management skills to oversee staff and workload. - Demonstrable experience on an expert level in the design, specification, testing and installation of HVDC and HVAC cables. - Relevant experience in managing and supporting a team of subject-matter experts and as a Design and Technical Authority. - In-depth knowledge of National Grid, British, and European cable standards, with experience writing technical specifications, guidance, and work instructions for HVDC cables and installation (land/subsea).
