Look no further We have a fantastic opportunity for a Private Sector Housing Officer to join our team here at Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.
The Private Sector Housing Team is looking to appoint an enthusiastic, innovative and self-motivated individual to help regulate housing conditions in the private rented sector in the borough.
This is a fixed term contract covering maternity leave - the expected end of the contract is February 2027, but will be reviewed periodically with the post holder.
The team are committed to improving housing conditions and protecting residents within our area. We take a twin track approach, working positively with those landlords who take their responsibilities seriously, whilst taking the strongest possible action against those who neglect their responsibilities, making full and appropriate use of legislation to achieve this goal.
The emphasis in this role is on carrying out inspections and investigations of poor or hazardous housing conditions within the private rented sector and licensing Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs).
Were looking for someone who can:
* Assess housing conditions using the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
* Understand the key laws, regulations and guidance needed to take action to improve housing standards.
* Produce clear formal letters, statutory notices, work schedules, technical reports and plans.
* Manage their own cases, take appropriate enforcement action, and support or advise less experienced colleagues.
* (Ideally) Prepare witness statements, put together case files and attend court or tribunals to give evidence when required.
* Work well with others, communicate effectively and show a flexible and professional approach that reflects the Councils values.
We also welcome applications from candidates who have the relevant experience but would prefer reduced hours, part-time working, or a shorter contract to suit other commitments.
