We are seeking a Senior Optical Test Engineer to join our Test Engineering team at our St Asaph site. This role is critical to supporting New Product Introduction (NPI), sustaining production, and driving continuous improvement across optical test processes and equipment.
You will work closely with Optical Design, Manufacturing, Quality, and Operations teams to ensure optical products meet demanding performance, quality, and regulatory requirements in a high‑reliability engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Develop, execute, and maintain optical test methods and procedures to verify product performance against specification
2. Provide hands‑on test support to NPI and production, including fault finding, root cause analysis, and corrective action
3. Own and improve optical test equipment, including calibration, reliability, and obsolescence management
4. Drive continuous improvement initiatives such as test time reduction, process robustness, and yield improvement
5. Interface proactively with Operations to identify and mitigate test‑related risks
6. Generate and maintain technical documentation, test reports, and compliance evidence
7. Ensure all test activities comply with company procedures, Health & Safety, and regulatory requirements
8. Support and mentor junior engineers and technicians within the test function
Essential Skills & Experience
9. Degree (or equivalent experience) in Physics, Optical Engineering, Photonics, or a related discipline
10. Practical experience in optical testing or metrology within a manufacturing environment
11. Strong understanding of optical principles (imaging, alignment, aberrations, tolerancing)
12. Experience troubleshooting complex optical systems and test setups
13. Ability to work effectively across multi‑disciplinary engineering and operations teams
14. Clear technical communication and structured problem‑solving skills
Desirable
15. Experience supporting NPI programmes and stage‑gate reviews
16. Familiarity with optical test equipment (e.g. interferometry, MTF, alignment benches)
17. Experience in regulated or high‑reliability sectors (Aerospace, Defence, Medical, Automotive)
18. Knowledge of test automation or data analysis tools
What We Offer
19. Opportunity to work on advanced optical systems in a high‑technology environment
20. A collaborative engineering culture with strong links between design, manufacture, and test
21. Professional development and skills growth within a specialist engineering discipline
22. Competitive salary and benefits package
