Overview

CAMHS is part of the Specialist Services Strategic Business Unit in HPFT, managed by the Clinical Director. CAMHS is overseen by a Senior Service Line Leader, supported by Professional Leads and CAMHS Community Managers. The teams are multi-disciplinary and accept referrals from General Practitioners, Social Workers, Health Visitors and Consultant Paediatricians. Referrals are processed through SPA (the Single Point of Access). The adolescent in-patient unit Forest House provides care to children and young people aged 13 to 18 and is located in Radlett, Hertfordshire. The unit operates as a planned assessment and family liaison service with an in-patient capacity of 16 beds, and includes a dedicated Eating Disorder Service. The Trust has recently moved to four divisions and focuses on delivering a range of mental health services across the county and region.


Responsibilities

The Consultant Psychiatrist will:

* Work alongside 1 substantive consultant and a medical team comprising Specialty Doctors, GP trainees, Psychiatry Specialty and Core Trainees.
* Complement and support the Senior Leadership Team including Therapy Lead, Modern Matron, Team Leaders, Consultant Social Worker and Home Treatment Team Lead to ensure delivery of high-quality care and contribute to operational management and clinical governance.
* Participate in service and business planning for the locality and, where appropriate, the whole mental health service.
* Participate in annual appraisals for consultants and attend the academic programme of the Trust as part of the internal CPD programme.
* Maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council, Section 12(2) approval, and adhere to professional codes of conduct.
* Engage in annual job plan reviews with clinical management to ensure the role adapts to changes in service configuration and delivery.
* Collaborate with local managers and professionals to ensure efficient running of services and contribute to medical management planning.
* Comply with the Trust's policies, procedures, standing orders and financial instructions and participate in financial planning for services.


Qualifications

* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Higher qualification in psychiatry such as MRCPsych or an equivalent MRCPsych qualification approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
* GMC full registration with licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* CCT in Psychiatry; OR inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register in psychiatry; OR within six months of achieving CCT/CESR at the time of interview.
* Section 12/Approved clinician approval.


Desirable criteria

* Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
* Higher degree (e.g., MD, PhD, MSc) or other clinical qualifications.
* Experience of safeguarding in child and adolescent mental health, and working with social care and other agencies.
* Experience of working with service users with complex needs within child and adolescent services.
* Excellent clinical skills across bio-psycho-social perspectives and wide medical knowledge.
* Excellent communication skills, ability to manage clinical complexity, and capacity to work with others to achieve shared goals.
* Experience of multi-disciplinary team working and teaching/training responsibilities.
* Eligibility to work in the UK and appropriate UK professional registration.
* Experience of research, audit, service evaluation and utilisation of clinical evidence.
