We are seeking an experienced and client-focused Senior Accountant to join our growing accounting practice. In this role, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of clients, providing expert financial advice, and ensuring the accurate preparation and submission of financial accounts. You will also play a key role in mentoring junior members of staff, supporting their development and helping maintain high standards across the team.
This position offers the opportunity to work with a diverse range of clients — including small and medium-sized businesses, sole traders, and partnerships — across various sectors. You’ll be instrumental in building strong client relationships while ensuring compliance with financial regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
* Client Account Management: Act as the main point of contact for a portfolio of clients, managing all accounting and financial matters.
* Preparation & Submission of Financial Accounts: Prepare year-end financial statements including profit and loss, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
* Bookkeeping & Financial Reporting: Maintain accurate financial records and generate periodic reports.
* VAT Returns & Tax Filings: Prepare and submit VAT returns, corporation tax, and personal tax filings.
* Client Advisory Services: Provide strategic financial advice on tax planning, budgeting, and cash flow.
* Liaison with HMRC: Handle tax queries and ensure compliance with HMRC requirements.
* Payroll Management: Oversee payroll processing and ensure regulatory compliance.
* Compliance & Audit Preparation: Ensure clients meet legal standards and assist with audit documentation.
* Software Setup & Training: Support clients in setting up and using accounting software (e.g., Xero).
* Internal & External Audits: Prepare documentation for audits.
* Mentoring & Team Support: Mentor junior staff, offering guidance, reviewing work, and supporting their professional development.
* Ad-hoc Financial Support: Provide additional services such as valuations, forecasts, and financial analysis.
Qualifications & Skills:
* Education: Qualified to Level 7 in ACA, ACCA, or CIMA.
* Experience: Minimum 3 years in a similar role within an accounting practice, with proven client management experience.
* Technical Skills: Proficient in accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks) and advanced Excel.
* Client-Focused: Strong interpersonal skills and relationship-building ability.
* Tax Expertise: In-depth knowledge of UK tax laws and compliance.
* Attention to Detail: High accuracy in financial reporting.
* Problem-solving: Capable of resolving complex financial issues independently.
