We are a partnership of hackajob and Atos, seeking a PostgreSQL database administrator with strong data modeling skills to join our team. The role involves managing Postgres application data stores across environments, working closely with developers, data pipeline engineers, and data scientists to define and maintain the data model for new data feeds.

Responsibilities
* Take responsibility for the application PostgreSQL database cluster across multiple environments (cloud and on‑premises).
* Monitor and tune PostgreSQL database performance.
* Handle migration of data structures across database instances, including to offline environments.
* Own the data models and manage the lifecycle of data in the Postgres database.
* Work closely with data‑pipeline engineers and data scientists to ingest diverse data sources.
* Manage security controls across environments, defining roles, permissions, and RLS controls.
* Collaborate with the infrastructure team to configure installations and manage patching of the databases across all environments.
Skills We Can’t Do Without
* PostgreSQL DBA, core development/maintenance, performance optimisation (sharding, partitions), experience with clustering and extensions such as pgvector, PostGIS, and AGE.
* Additional skills in Oracle or MSSQL.
* Strong PostgreSQL database management skills:
* Performance optimisation – index tuning, execution plan analysis, query optimisation, data partitioning.
* Backup and recovery – define backup strategies based on environment constraints.
* Clustering – experience managing database clusters and fail‑over strategies.
* Data modelling – design, create and manage schemas, tables, and views to support data models.
* Best practices for storing JSON objects within PostgreSQL.
* Clear communication and ability to work collaboratively with developers to define and implement data model requirements.
Essential Criteria – BPSS Eligibility
SC cleared as a minimum, DV as a target. Must have lived and worked in the UK continuously for the past 5–7 years.
