Job Description
UKIFS Ltd. is seeking a Patent Attorney to lead on intellectual property matters related to the STEP programme, which develops pioneering technologies to strengthen the UKs leadership in fusion industry innovations.
The role involves advising on IP strategy, identifying protectable inventions, managing IP portfolios, and supporting commercialization efforts. The successful candidate will have extensive patent drafting and prosecution experience, a strong technical background, and proven ability to manage multiple projects and build stakeholder relationships.
Key Responsibilities
* Advise technologists and engineers on IP matters, ensuring decisions align with strategy.
* Identify, protect, and manage IP generated by the STEP technology stream.
* Conduct landscape and risk analysis, and advise on IP protection options.
* Draft and prosecute patent applications, and support external counsel as needed.
* Manage IP portfolios, develop annual processes, and control budgets.
* Provide IP training across teams and maintain training records.
Qualifications
Essential:
* Patent Attorney UK and/or European qualified with PQE.
* Experience advising clients on IP matters and managing IP portfolios.
* Proven invention identification, prior art review, and patent prosecution skills.
* Strong communication, analytical, and strategic skills.
* Degree in Scientific or Engineering discipline.
Desirable:
* Experience in industry IP management, risk assessment, and freedom to operate analysis.
