The Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist to join the Medium Secure Inpatient Services. This is a newly created post arising from the continued expansion of the Trust’s Medium Secure Services. The post comprises 7.5 Direct Clinical Care sessions and 2.5 Supporting Professional Activities sessions.
Role Overview The role acts as the Responsible Clinician for Rowan View Medium Secure Unit, with an anticipated caseload of about 15 male inpatients and one of several visiting forensic consultants to HMP Liverpool or HMP Altcourse. The post includes approximately 10 sessions per week.
Responsibilities
Provide specialist medium secure inpatient care for patients with primary diagnoses of mental illness and learning disability.
Conduct admission assessments under consultant supervision and support resident doctors and core psychiatry trainees.
Collaborate closely with Low Secure Units, community forensic teams, step‑down services, and partner agencies to ensure effective progression of patients through the forensic care pathway.
Serve a defined caseload at Rowan View and participate in visiting consultancy at local category B prisons.
Qualifications
Full GMC registration.
MRCPsych qualification desirable.
Registered or within six months of entry to the Specialist Register for Forensic Psychiatry.
Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983 and hold Approved Clinician (AC) status.
