The Opportunity
Our client, a well-established precision engineering manufacturer based in Bristol, supplies high-integrity gear components to demanding industries including aerospace, defence, nuclear and rail.
Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Gear Machinist / Gear Cutter to join their skilled manufacturing team.

The Role
This is a hands-on role responsible for setting up and operating manual and conventional gear cutting machinery to produce high-precision components to exacting tolerances and industry standards.
You will play a key role in delivering precision-engineered products within a regulated manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Core Technical Duties
*
Set up and operate manual gear cutting machinery including hobbing, shaping, slotting and broaching equipment
*
Manufacture spur, helical, bevel, worm and splined gears to precise tolerances
*
Perform precision turning and milling operations on gear blanks
*
Interpret complex engineering drawings and gear data
*
Calculate machining parameters including speeds, feeds, depths of cut and indexing positions
*
Select and maintain tooling, fixtures and workholding methods
*
Conduct in-process inspection using precision measuring equipment
*
Ensure all components meet dimensional and quality requirements
Quality & Compliance
*
Work in line with ISO quality standards and internal procedures
*
Complete production and inspection documentation
*
Maintain high levels of accuracy, traceability and process discipline
Operational Contribution
*
Identify and resolve machining or tolerance issues
*
Work collaboratively with inspection and engineering teams
*
Support continuous improvement initiatives
*
Maintain safe working practices at all times
About You
Essential Experience:
*
Proven experience as a Gear Machinist / Gear Cutter within a precision engineering environment
*
Strong experience operating manual gear hobbing and shaping machines
*
Experience with manual lathes and milling machines
*
Ability to manufacture precision gear components from technical drawings
*
Strong understanding of gear geometry and machining calculations
*
Experience working to tight tolerances
*
Competent using precision measurement tools (micrometers, verniers, gauges, etc.)
*
Experience working within a regulated manufacturing environment
