The Sustainability Manager role
Manage the delivery of the sustainability strategy, client requirements, and environmental compliance on a large project in South Wales.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Sustainability and project teams, bringing experience in construction environmental management and delivering projects aligned with our key sustainability areas: Carbon, Resource Efficiency, Ethical Procurement, and Social Value.
Key responsibilities include:
* Implementing EMS from pre-construction with support from the Head of Sustainability
* Ensuring procurement documentation reflects sustainability requirements
* Ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and best practices through inspections and audits
* Managing efforts to reduce carbon emissions and waste, and ensuring ethical procurement
* Understanding and delivering client sustainability requirements (e.g., BREEAM, Section 106)
* Reporting project performance in line with company standards
* Reviewing and improving project performance
* Communicating strategy and achievements to staff
* Sharing best practices across the business
* Providing environmental and sustainability training for staff and supply chain
Your Profile
Essential Skills and Qualifications
* Member of relevant professional body (IEMA / CIOB)
* Experience supporting sustainability/environmental aspects in complex construction or civil engineering projects
* Strong communication and influencing skills
* Proactive learner
* Ability to manage sustainability delivery on projects
* Experience in environmental roles within construction
* Knowledge of assessment methods (BREEAM, LEED, HQM)
* Technical review and management of sustainability performance and assessments
* Experience managing sustainability requirements from preconstruction to completion
