Locum Paediatric Occupational Therapist – Specialist Practitioner
* This Paediatric Occupational Therapy service is funded by the NHS and provides coordinated support for children and young people (aged 0–18) with significant disabilities and complex health needs.
* Based in Chessington, the team delivers services across early years settings, mainstream schools, and special schools.
* The service focuses on improving participation and independence in everyday activities from self-care and school-based skills to mobility and posture helping each child achieve their potential despite physical, developmental, or learning challenges.
About the Role
* As an Occupational Therapist, you will work as an autonomous practitioner across a range of community and educational settings. You will:
* Provide high-quality, evidence-based occupational therapy for children and young people with disabilities.
* Manage a specialist caseload involving complex physical, learning, and social needs.
* Contribute to multidisciplinary team assessments, reviews, and EHCP reports.
* Offer specialist advice and training to families, schools, and other professionals.
* Supervise students on clinical placements and support staff working with your caseload.
Essential qualifications and registration:
* Diploma/BSc/MSc in Occupational Therapy
* Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
* Evidence of ongoing professional development and relevant short courses
Skills and experience:
* Proven experience in clinical assessment and intervention as an Occupational Therapist
* Strong knowledge of child development, neurodevelopment, and childhood occupations
* Skilled in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of therapy programmes
* Excellent report writing, communication, and interpersonal skills
* Experience supporting children with physical and developmental disabilities
* Ability to prioritise workload, use initiative, and work autonomously
* Experience supervising students or junior staff is desirable
