Job overview

We are recruiting for an Clinical Nurse Specialist who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

You will be a recognised expert in the specialty of managing the acutely unwell patient and resuscitation responses, and will be responsible for assessing, developing and implementing specialist care programmes and undertaking specialist procedures required for the role.

You will be responsible for providing specialist advice and support to, and liaising with, other staff. This includes the provision of specialist education and training for other staff and students responsible for implementing a clearly defined integrated approach to patient care encompassing new
treatments and evidence based care.

You will be required to undertake research and lead clinical audits in own specialist area. You will demonstrate strong clinical leadership and will practice within the Trust values and vision.

Main duties of the job

Managing acute deterioration of inpatients across all specialties

Initiate and participate audits relating to patient safety and deterioration

Provide training and education around acute deterioration and life sustaining interventions for patients

Member of the emergency response team, attending cardiac arrests, major haemorrhages and any other emergency situation

Qualifications / Training


Essential criteria

* Undergraduate degree or equivalent professional qualification
* Master’s level qualification or equivalent experience
* Recognised post-graduate qualification in Critical or Acute Care directly relating to clinical deterioration or working towards with relevant experience
* ILS Provider
* ALS Provider, or booked on course/willing to complete course
* Evidence of continued professional development
* PILS Provider, or willingness to complete course
* Independent and Supplementary Prescribing or willingness to complete course


Desirable criteria

* Training or Education qualification
* Coaching qualification
* Leadership qualification
* ALS/APLS Instructor status
* APLS Provider


Previous Experience


Essential criteria

* Experience in providing expert clinical care, using advanced clinical judgment in the management of the deteriorating patient and resuscitation care needs
* Experience in an acute care service setting
* Experience in supporting a trust wide educational portfolio that supports all health care professionals, including relevant training to the deteriorating patient and resuscitation skills requirements.
* Experience of leading change projects
* Experience of supporting nursing, allied health care professional and medical workforce teams in the safe management of the deteriorating patient
* Experience and high confidence of working with minimal supervision
* Experience of driving strategic portfolios to improve the quality of patient care
* Ability to support a range of staff and quality/ clinical services /professional activity.
* Experience in participating in complex, sensitive and sometimes difficult conversations.


Desirable criteria

* Experience in setting objectives and performance management and holding people to account.
* Experience in teaching on resuscitation courses
* Experience of working in the community or liaising with community staff
* Experience of presenting at conference and writing for publication

Knowledge


Essential criteria

* Excellent understanding of principles and evidence based practice of management the acutely unwell and deteriorating in patient.
* Excellent knowledge of Resuscitation Council UK provider standards
* Knowledge of the components of quality domains, quality governance, risk management and assurance function; current NHS national policies, standards, requirements and directions that relate to measuring and improving the quality and safety of patient care.
* Knowledge of Human Factors systems thinking principles


Desirable criteria

* An understanding and experience of staff management and organisational development
* Knowledge and skills in developing educational packages

* Experience and evidence of engagement around equality, diversity and inclusion issues in relation to policy, service development and service delivery in respect of both services to users and the management of staff

* Required to travel between hospital sites
