The Trainee Emergency Nurse Practitioner will work within the Emergency Department under the supervision of an ENP mentor; ensuring that high standards of clinical care are met through the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of minor injury and illness.

This post is offered at B6 whilst completing the necessary courses and competencies. There is the opportunity for this for the trainee to become a B7 on completion of all relevant courses.

The post holder will have evidence and experience of having worked in ED, evidence of minor injury skills and management. Evidence of completion of or evidence of working towards post-registration education in minor injury and illness management at degree or masters level is desirable. The post holder will have a portfolio of evidence that clearly demonstrates their competence to independently assess and manage adults and children with minor injury.

The post holder will be responsible for providing direct and indirect supervision for junior colleagues.

The role will require the post holder to work flexibly in order to respond to variations in demand within the Emergency Department


Main duties of the job

The post holder will work under supervision during training assessing and managing patients presenting with minor injury/illness presentations to the Emergency Department

The post holder will support the development of all grades of clinical staff who are developing clinical skills in the management of minor illness and injury

The post holder will be responsible for contributing to clinical audit and service development within the minor service

Collaboratively work with colleagues to develop evidenced-based clinical pathways, protocols and guidelines with a view to continuously improving quality and managing clinical risk more effectively.

The post holder will use history-taking, assessment, examination and diagnostic skills within an agreed scope of practice. The post holder will ensure the safe referral or discharge of patients within a range of minor injury and minor illness presentations.

Job responsibilities

The post-holder will be clinically experienced. They will exercise high levels of judgement, discretion and decision making in clinical care in managing minor injury & illness presentations in both adults & children. Those working towards completion of these additional courses will be provided training opportunities & allocated study time to complete the necessary training courses until fully qualified. The post holder will ensure person-centred care and family carer collaboration. As appropriate, the promotion and maintenance of independence, health and wellbeing will be undertaken. The post holder will be allocated weekly CPD.

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £45.50. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.

Person Specification


Education & Qualifications

* Registered Nurse on NMC Register
* Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
* Willingness to participate in CPD
* Evidence of continuing personal and professional development
* Evidence of university accredited qualification in minor injury/illness care


Knowledge

* Knowledge of developments in the NHS
* Clinical knowledge of the assessment and management required for patients with minor injury and/or illness presentations
* Understanding of current NHS initiatives and targets


Experience

* Experience of managing patients with minor presentations
* Experience of people management and effective leadership
* Experience of undertaking clinical audit and effecting change


Skills & Abilities

* Leadership and organisational skills
* Ability to work under pressure and manage competing demands
* Logical approach to problem solving
* Able to work independently and as part of a team
