Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist to join our Forensic Healthcare Service based at the Hellingly Centre in East Sussex. This post provides clinical and strategic leadership within a sub‑acute / rehabilitation medium secure ward and has arisen due to retirement and internal service reconfiguration.
About the role
As Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist, you will lead on specialist psychiatric assessment, treatment and risk management for a defined inpatient caseload, while contributing to service development and multidisciplinary decision‑making. You will undertake statutory responsibilities under the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act, provide clinical supervision and consultation to colleagues, and work closely with community forensic services and partner agencies to support safe discharge pathways. The role combines hands‑on clinical work with system leadership, education and quality improvement.

About you
You will be a fully GMC‑registered Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist with specialist registration (or within six months) and approval under Section 12 or willingness to obtain. You will bring strong clinical judgement, leadership capability and a collaborative, recovery‑focused approach to secure mental health care. An interest in teaching, service development or research will be welcomed.
