Specialist Podiatrist

Take a clinical specialist role across within: Assessment/ Tissue Viability
Provide leadership within the Team and act as a senior clinician, leading by example.
Provides specialist podiatry advice both within and externally to the Trust.
Assesses and treats patients within the team caseload of patients with specialised care needs which includes adults and paediatrics, self-referrals from patients and referrals from other practitioners and disciplines.
Participate in the training of other staff and students.
Participate in service transformation activity with a view to continuous service improvement and value for money.
Main duties of the job
To be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation of podiatric care for patients within a team caseload with specialised care needs.
To provide appropriate podiatric health education to patients and carers.
To act as a senior clinician providing specialist advice to and accepting referrals from both podiatrists within the department and clinicians in other fields.
To ensure that all interventions are designed using, where possible, evidence based practice and to evaluate outcomes.
To work across acute, community and primary health care sectors as part of a multidisciplinary team with direct input to patient care, often highly complex individual cases, and acting as a source of advice to medical colleagues, other health care professionals, patients and carers.
To be responsible for the maintenance of appropriate documentation for patient records, reports, audits and Departmental standard.
About us
We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job responsibilities
Specialist Podiatry work for 12 months within the Sedgefield locality to cover maternity leave. Clinical and Domiciliary work.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Working independently and as part of a team providing Podiatry Biomechanics/MSK services and or WC/Tissue viability to patients within County Durham and Darlington.
* Post graduate training.
Experience
* At least 2 years post graduate experience with evidence of working within Biomechanics/MSK services and/or Diabetes/Tissue Viability.
Special Skills & Knowledge
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal, including persuasive and reassurance skills which are essential in the effective communication of complex and sensitive information to patients and in communication with other health care professionals.
* Good organisational skills.
Special Requirements
* Ability to work under pressure.
* Driving posts must have a valid Full UK driving licence.

* HCPC.
