Environmental Manager
Aureos are seeking an Environmental Manager to lead on the implementation of the Infrastructure Sustainability Strategy including associated procedures, communications and reporting.
The Environmental Manager will lead on the expert provision of guidance and support to project teams, managing a team to cover all areas of environmental and social sustainability.

We are open to applicants that are interested in working on a full or part-time basis.

Primary duties

Responsible for the implementation of the sustainability strategy including:

Improve sustainability culture aligned with the wider business culture
Implement effective monitoring and KPIs to track progress in a way that our business leaders understand and can act upon
Improve knowledge through a dedicated programme in line with a responsibility matrix, ensuring it remains valid and engaging
Ensure policies and procedures are fit for purpose, providing specialist advice to the Compliance team
Collaborate with relevant stakeholders e.g. HR, Engineering to ensure success of the sustainability strategy
Manage the team, ensuring sufficient coverage across projects and providing mentoring and development. Ensure effective resource for provision of competent advice
Lead liaison with regulators and key stakeholders, promoting the business across industry
Facilitate continual improvement through positive challenge and leadership
Promote a learning culture for environmental sustainability and social value

Secondary duties

Responsible for overseeing the effective implementation of the relevant management systems

Ensure policies, procedures and requirements are understood relative to role across business units
Ensure effective assurance against the environment management system and sustainability strategy

Qualifications and Training

Essential:

Degree in relevant subject e.g. Environmental Management, Sustainability, Environmental Engineering
IEMA Chartered (or equivalent) (working towards at time of taking up the post may be considered)
Driving Licence or ability to travel via other means (national travel will be required)

Desirable:

CSCS / EUSR / PTS
Kelvin Top Set 1 day - 3 day
Report writing course

Knowledge and Experience

Essential:

Working understanding of project management (ideally in a construction environment), management systems and relevant legislation
Experience of implementing a strategy, communicating targets, assessing risk and opportunity, reporting and ongoing monitoring
Experience of working in a similar role at a managerial or leadership level
Passion for sustainability demonstrated through the ability to effectively communicate knowledge
Understanding of wellbeing and a way of working that puts people at the heart of the strategy

Desirable:

Industrial knowledge across the infrastructure Services areas of Business
Working knowledge of ISO50001, PAS2080 and ESOS
Experience of carbon reporting across all scopes and the use of carbon tools
Understanding of circular economy principles and lifecycles, waste legislation, bio-diversity (including accounting tools), social value (including accounting) and consents

Skills and abilities

Essential:

Excellent listening behaviours and ability to communicate effectively at all levels with different styles
Positive attitude and ability to influence others
Excellent leadership skills, able to build relationships based on trust, drive positive change and respond to challenge in an inclusive manner
Ability to use IT systems including Microsoft 365, specific systems and tools (e.g. carbon accounting)

Desirable:

Strong interpersonal skills able to communicate clearly to inform and influence others; uses appropriate, effective methods to deliver messages.
Commitment and ability to drive continuous improvement, challenging the status quo for the benefit of the business, supporting learning and development.
Hands on approach to problem solving
Excellent standard of written and numerical literacy
