Faculty of Science School of Environmental Sciences Soil Assessment Technician – UKRI Land Use Next Zero OpenLAND (Part-Time, 0.5 FTE) Ref: TC925 Starting salary from £26,707 per annum (pro rata), with an annual increment up to £30,378 per annum (pro rata). University of East Anglia (UEA) has some of the most innovative and highly regarded centres for research in the UK. Applications are invited for the post of Soil Assessment Technician to assist in the research under the supervision of Professor Brian Reid to work on the UKRI Funded OpenLAND project. The role will involve collection and assessment of soil samples. Specifically, we are seeking someone with demonstrable skills in soil chemical analysis. The laboratory work, analysis and interpretation of data will contribute to research papers and reports. You will be responsible for the generation of soil data across the entire project and communicating this data with the wider team. Key Responsibilities: Preparing soil samples (extraction, drying, milling etc.) Preparing and undertaking soil sample assessments Responsible for the sequencing of sample assessment Managing time as aligned to sample preparation, analysis of samples and data review You will have laboratory experience and a degree or equivalent experience in environmental sciences. You must be able to meet all of the essential criteria set out in the Person Specification. This part-time (0.5 FTE) post is available from 3 November 2025 on a fixed term basis until 31 April 2027. You will undertake laboratory work at the University of East Anglia and fieldwork across the East of England and nationally. You may also need to undertake work outside normal office hours, potentially evenings and weekends.
