Job purpose: The Night Shift Hygiene Supervisor will manage and coordinate night-time hygiene operations, ensuring all areas of the site meet strict food safety, hygiene, and health & safety standards. This is a hands-on role; the supervisor will actively participate in cleaning duties alongside the team, while also providing leadership, guidance, and quality control.
Job responsibilities:
* Lead, motivate, and support the night shift hygiene team to complete daily cleaning schedules to the highest standards.
* Assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide on-the-job training as required.
* Work alongside the team during cleaning activities to ensure quality, efficiency, and teamwork.
* Conduct pre- and post-clean inspections to ensure compliance with hygiene requirements.
* Ensure all cleaning activities comply with BRCGS, HACCP, COSHH, and company hygiene policies.
* Maintain accurate cleaning records, checklists, and compliance documentation.
* Support internal and external audits, providing evidence of hygiene processes.
* Coordinate the cleaning of production equipment, machinery, and facility areas in line with the Master Cleaning Schedule (MCS).
* Safely handle and store cleaning chemicals in line with COSHH requirements.
* Troubleshoot and resolve hygiene-related issues during the shift.
* Promote a safe working environment, reporting hazards and incidents promptly.
* Ensure all staff follow PPE requirements and safe work practices.
* Identify opportunities to improve hygiene processes and efficiency.
* Support training initiatives to upskill team members.
* Previous supervisory experience in an industrial cleaning or food manufacturing environment.
* Hands-on approach with willingness to work alongside the cleaning team.
* In-depth knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene procedures.
* Understanding of HACCP, BRCGS, and COSHH regulations.
* Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
* Ability to work effectively during night shifts in a fast-paced environment.
* Food Safety Level 3 or equivalent qualification.
* IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent health & safety certification.
* Experience in preparing for BRCGS or customer audits.
