Job summary Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are seeking an experienced Estates Manager (BMS & Energy Management Systems) to provide Trust-wide leadership, oversight, and accountability for all Building Management Systems and energy management activities. The post holder will be responsible for the operational and strategic management of BMS across multiple sites, ensuring systems are optimised to support safe clinical environments, statutory compliance, energy efficiency, and carbon reduction objectives. Working closely with senior estates colleagues, clinical teams, and external contractors, the role will lead on performance monitoring, fault analysis, system optimisation, and continuous improvement, while reducing reliance on reactive contractor support and ensuring best value from existing infrastructure. This is a key role in supporting patient care environments, operational resilience, and financial sustainability across the Trust estate. Experience with Building Management Systems is essential for this role. Main duties of the job The post holder will provide Trust-wide management and leadership of Building Management Systems (BMS) and energy management systems, ensuring they are operated safely, efficiently, and in compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements. Key duties include overseeing the performance, optimisation, and resilience of BMS supporting clinical and non-clinical environments; proactively monitoring alarms, trends, and system data to identify faults and inefficiencies; leading energy optimisation initiatives to reduce consumption, cost, and carbon impact; managing and performance-monitoring external BMS and specialist contractors; supporting planned preventative maintenance, minor works, and system upgrades; providing technical advice and assurance to senior estates colleagues; contributing to compliance with relevant HTMs, Health and Safety legislation, and Trust policies; producing performance, energy, and compliance reports; and working collaboratively with clinical, facilities, and estates teams to ensure building systems support safe, comfortable, and reliable patient care environments across the Trust.
