MRI Lead Radiographer

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust are looking for a dynamic and highly motivated, experienced MR trained Radiographer to lead the MR Service at Furness General Hospital. This role will be suitable for someone who has proven experience in managing an MRI service or for an experienced Radiographer looking for a new challenge.
The MR department at the FGH provides a wide range of MR imaging procedures including MSK, neurological, vascular and oncology. The Radiology department has Sectra PACS and RIS. The MRI department is equipped with two Siemens MRI scanners. We have introduced a full 7 day MRI service.
Suitable applicants must be patient centred, caring and professional with recent extensive MRI experience, an interest in teaching, clinical governance and radiation protection, and either a Diploma of the College of Radiographers or BSc (Hons) in Diagnostic Radiography and be registered with the HCPC.
Experience in CT is advantageous but not a requirement.
Main duties of the job
* To act as the lead specialist radiographer in MR.
* To deputise for the lead radiographer in CT and support this service in their absence.
* To manage the MR imaging department and lead a large team of specialist radiographers.
* To produce high quality diagnostic investigations.
* To be responsible for writing policies and examination protocols alongside the Clinical Lead Radiologist.
* To be responsible for setting up and maintaining quality assurance programmes.
* To be responsible for risk assessment and health and safety of staff and patients.
* To be ultimately responsible for the technical and diagnostic quality of the examinations performed.
* To organise the daily workload.
* To supervise and train newly qualified or inexperienced radiographers.
Person Specification
Education and qualifications
* Degree in radiography, or equivalent, with current HCPC registration.
* Certificate in the administration of intravenous drugs.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* Professional knowledge acquired through degree plus short specialist courses and/or experience to post‑graduate diploma level or equivalent.
* Good command of the English Language.
* Post‑graduate qualification in CT and/or MRI.
* Post‑graduate qualification clinical and/or management.
* First line management training.
Experience
* Significant experience in MRI.
* Relevant experience at a supervisory level.
* Relevant experience with Radiology RIS and PACS systems and a good knowledge of basic IT office systems.
* Experience of working at a supervisory level within an NHS or Private UK Hospital.
* In‑depth knowledge of MR safety regulations.
* Involvement in research/audit relating to MR/CT.
* Training/teaching experience.
* Staff appraisal experience.
* Mentoring experience.
* Ability to teach others to graduate level.
* Regular attendance at post‑graduate study days, lectures, and courses.
* Significant post‑graduate experience in magnetic resonance imaging.
Skills, ability, and knowledge
* Ability to demonstrate up‑to‑date knowledge of cross‑sectional imaging techniques.
* Proven skills in performing a wide range of examinations and procedures in CT or MRI or both.
* Ability to provide a high level of patient care in accordance with current protocols.
* High technical standards.
* Good organisational and leadership skills and able to lead a large team of specialist radiographers.
* Ability to use own initiative including good problem solving and decision‑making skills.
* Excellent interpersonal & communication skills demonstrating the ability to work and negotiate within a multi‑disciplined environment.

* Able to work on any site in the Trust as required.
