About The Role

The Assistant Peer Review Performance Manager drives the day‑to‑day peer review performance for a segment of the Research Publishing journal portfolio. They assess editor and editorial office performance across all journals in their remit, monitor editor performance, manage expected behaviours and KPIs, and optimise performance to ensure adherence to best practices and promote a positive author experience at all points in the author lifecycle. They receive direction from their manager and guidance and coaching from senior peers.


Job Responsibilities

* Provide journal‑level oversight of the manuscript peer review process from submission to final editorial decision and export to Content Operations for a portfolio of journals within Research Publishing, using best‑practice principles and effective time‑management practices.
* Oversee and evaluate editor and vendor partner Editorial Assistant (EA) performance across their segment of the Research Publishing portfolio.
* Maintain oversight of accurate documentation of peer review management processes.
* Identify and raise integrity concerns and action any outcomes from investigations as needed.
* Adopt new services/tools when offered or enhanced workflows are rolled out.
* Execute and align the journals in their remit toward continuous improvement, workflow optimisation, and adoption of peer review best practices and standards.
* Focus on the value‑added strategies and tactics associated with the delivery of a rendered decision, including speed to decision, quality of author experience, and integrity of manuscript and workflows that underpin the peer review process.


Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree or equivalent or relevant industry experience.
* Relevant or transferable experience in publishing.
* Data literate, able to quickly adapt to new systems and platforms.
* Strong written and verbal communication and relationship management skills.
* Attention to detail.
* Ability to manage and resolve conflict.
* A level of comfort with ambiguity and change.
* Continuous improvement and problem‑solving mindset.


Preferred Qualifications

* Experience managing journal editorial offices or using electronic submission systems.
* Data proficient; knowledge of SharePoint, Microsoft Suite, Power BI; able to ‘self‑service’ data.
* Presentation skills and change management capabilities.
* Project management skills.


Salary Range

25,600 GBP to 34,933 GBP
