Summer Support and Media Communications Assistant

Position Summary
This part‑time role (up to 24 hours per week) supports summer academic operations, community programming, and communications at the Hatfield Marine Science Center.
Responsibilities
* Summer Operations Support (50%)
o Assist with summer courses and field trips including driving, loading, and refueling university vans, assisting instructors, setting up labs, and managing inventory.
o Support community events and outreach by executing HMSC event programming, coordinating workshops, assisting with research seminar logistics, monitoring Discord, and participating in campus tours.
* Communications, Project Management, and Collaboration (50%)
o Produce digital content, coordinate media projects, manage timelines, lead a weekly social media series, adhere to branding and accessibility guidelines, mentor peers, and develop tour materials.
* Project Management & Professional Responsibilities
o Plan, initiate, manage, and evaluate projects; prioritize tasks and manage time; attend meetings; communicate clearly; complete required training; maintain records; build professional relationships; adapt to changing priorities; and comply with academic and legal requirements.
Qualifications
* Current OSU or OSU partnership student; GPA 2.5 or higher; good academic standing.
* Proficiency with Canva, Meta Business Suite, Instagram, Facebook, X, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Zoom, or similar programs; willingness to learn new software.
* Experience in graphic design, photography, videography, video editing, and interviewing.
* Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
* Ability to work independently, prioritize projects, and seek guidance when needed.
* Valid driver’s license capable of driving 6‑ and 12‑passenger vans.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
* Familiarity with Hatfield and MACO social media and web presence.
* Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Capcut, or other digital media software.
* Interest in marine and coastal science topics.
* Previous experience in an educational residential community.
* Undergraduate OSU student with at least one year remaining in degree.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
* 20–40 hours per week, June 8 to September 21, 2026.
* Monday–Friday; occasional evenings, weekends.
* Work outdoors in varying weather; may lift up to 30 lbs.
* Requires driving a university van on unmaintained roads.
* Furnished dormitory‑style room shared with other student workers.
