About the Role
The Material Controller plays a key role in ensuring uninterrupted manufacturing flow by managing raw material demand signals through the MRP system and translating these into accurate and timely purchase orders to the supply chain.
Working closely with internal stakeholders across Operations, Planning, Commercial, and Finance, the post-holder will ensure that raw materials are delivered in the correct quantities, to plan, correctly packaged, fully documented, and compliant with all specification requirements. This role is critical in balancing dynamic demand with supply chain capability to support on-time delivery and business performance.
As a condition of employment successful candidates are required to satisfy ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) compliance and must fulfil the following before commencing this role:
i. Currently hold the legal Right to Work in the UK with no future sponsorship requirement
ii. Provide a consistent 5-year UK domicile
iii. Fulfil a DBS clearance
iv. Pass Drugs & Alcohol screening at the start of their Mettis employment
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
Manage MRP-generated demand signals and translate them into accurate purchase orders for raw materials
Ensure the correct quantity of raw material is delivered to site on time, in line with the production plan
Maintain disciplined end‑to‑end purchase order administration, including pricing, quantities, and delivery dates
Monitor and manage the order book to respond effectively to changing demand horizons
Ensure all raw material is delivered correctly packaged and fully documented to specification
Communicate clearly and effectively with internal stakeholders regarding material status, risks, and priorities
Maintain proactive engagement with suppliers to ensure alignment with business unit requirements
Support supply chain alignment through forward thinking and challenge where risks are identified
Planning and Delivery Responsibilities
Work closely with Business Unit Planning & Control and Customer Order Administrators to support delivery commitments
Liaise with Warehouse, Manufacturing, Test & Release, and Commercial teams to support smooth material flow
Anticipate material constraints and escalate risks early with mitigating actions
Cost Responsibilities
Support effective inventory control by balancing availability and working capital
Minimise expediting, premium freight, and material-related manufacturing disruption
People and Behavioural Responsibilities
Demonstrate an ownership-led approach to material availability and supplier performance
Prioritise workload effectively to meet internal customer and operational requirements
Simplify complex or changing demand information into clear, actionable communication
Act professionally and collaboratively with both internal stakeholders and the external supply base
Business Responsibilities
Act as an ambassador for Mettis in all supplier interactions
Role model the company’s Vision, Mission, and Values
Comply with all Mettis policies, procedures, and governance requirements
Experience
Essential
Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial supply chain environment
Demonstrable experience using MRP systems for demand and order management
Desirable
Supply Chain, Business, or Engineering qualification, or equivalent experience

Technical Skills
Proficient in MRP demand and order book management
End‑to‑end purchase order lifecycle management
Competent user of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications

Ability to prioritise effectively in a dynamic production environment

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Location: Redditch, Worcestershire (on site, 5 days)
Hours: M–T 07:30 – 16:30 & F 07:30 – 12:30
