Overview
We are looking for compassionate and caring Nursing Assistants to join Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MFT). Our Nursing Assistants are integral to patient care, delivering high-quality, patient-focused support and communicating sensitively with patients, relatives and the multi-disciplinary team. The role involves flexible working across off-site areas over 6 days a week, and may require working across sites to support the Macular Treatment Centre at Oxford Road Campus and related sites in North, Trafford and South Manchester.
The Macular Treatment Centre (MTC) at Oxford Road Campus is a centre of excellence for treatment of macular eye conditions, with emphasis on research and audit. Informal visits welcome.
On joining MFT, you will have access to on-the-job training and development opportunities to progress within the Nursing Assistant pathway.
Main duties
Under supervision of Registered Nurses and within Trust guidelines and protocols, you will assist the nursing team in delivering high standards of patient care. Duties include clinical tasks such as recording patient observations and recognising changes in patient conditions, assisting with personal care (mobilising, toileting, eating and drinking), and undertaking a range of delegated clinical care duties as you progress through training.
There is an opportunity to undertake on-the-job training and development, including a Support Worker Development Programme for Nursing Assistants and Care Certificate completion. Progression opportunities include moving to a Band 3 Nursing Assistant role following successful completion of programme requirements and demonstration of clinical knowledge and competency.
Qualifications and progression
Initial training and progression require:
* Holds National Care Certificate or willingness to undertake and complete within 12 weeks of starting.
* Level 2 Apprenticeship in health care OR equivalent knowledge gained through the Trust Clinical Support Worker Development Programme.
* On completion, progression to Band 3 AfC is possible with evidence of clinical knowledge, skill and competency.
* Holds Functional Skills Level 1 Maths and English or education equivalent.
Experience may include previous healthcare, social care, or service roles requiring people contact. Desirable: experience of working in a healthcare environment. Skills include good communication, teamwork, ability to carry out routine tasks, initiative under supervision, and effective interaction with patients, relatives, visitors, and the multi-disciplinary team. Computer skills are desirable.
