ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re seeking a Category Manager with a fast-paced FMCG background and a true trader’s mentality. This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-growth, entrepreneurial business where you’ll be hands-on, commercial, and focused on results. If you love the buzz of reactive trading, thrive on making quick commercial decisions, and enjoy seeing the direct impact of your work, this role could be the perfect next step.
Key Responsibilities
* Range Building: Develop and curate product ranges that meet market demands and drive sales.
* Pricing & Promotions: React quickly to market changes, implementing sharp, competitive pricing and compelling promotional strategies.
* Category Growth: Expand the breadth and depth of categories to maximise profitability.
* Merchandising: Ensure products are well-presented, commercially strong, and optimised for sales performance.
* Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Marketing and Buying teams to align trading activity with brand and commercial goals.
* Trader Mentality: Stay close to the numbers, monitor performance throughout the day, and make data-led decisions to deliver results.
ABOUT THE CANDIDATE
We’re looking for an individual with a strong background in (ideally mixed category) FMCG with experience in a fast-paced, reactive environment.
Someone who has:
* A hands-on, sleeves-rolled-up approach, with the ability to balance strategic thinking and day-to-day trading.
* Hunger, drive, and a commercial mindset with a passion for delivering results.
* Experience in small to medium-sized retail businesses during times of high growth would be a distinct advantage.
* This role would suit either: an Assistant Category Manager looking to step up or an existing Category Manager ready for an exciting, unique, and autonomous environment.
ABOUT THE CLIENT
* Be part of a fast-growing Manchester-based business with huge opportunities ahead.
* Work in a dynamic, entrepreneurial culture where you’ll see the impact of your work immediately.
* Enjoy an autonomous environment with room to innovate and make your mark.
* Hybrid model: office-based 2–3 days a week with flexibility built in. Although, please note that the trading nature of this role will mean it has an 'always on' feel - so it does require someone who thrives in this environment.
