Environmental Technical Team Leader

Location & Working Arrangement
This role will initially be based in Bradford. The office will move to Leeds Valley Park in summer 2026, where the role will adopt a hybrid working model (maximum 2 to 3 office days a week, Bradford/Leeds).
Work type
Permanent, 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Responsibilities
* Lead and inspire an environmental technical team, embedding Yorkshire Water values and behaviours while ensuring clear focus, high standards, and delivery of agreed outputs.
* Ensure robust process compliance, monitoring adherence, identifying gaps or deviations, and implementing corrective actions to deliver full resolution of environmental and operational compliance issues.
* Drive end‑to‑end issue resolution, ensuring investigations are completed thoroughly, actions are closed effectively, and all outcomes are fully documented and auditable.
* Act as a key facilitator across the business, working with operational, technical and regulatory teams to remove barriers, align priorities and deliver effective cross‑functional outcomes.
* Coach and develop team members, building capability in process discipline, technical understanding and structured problem‑solving.
* Lead engagement with regulators on environmental incidents, representing Yorkshire Water professionally and ensuring processes, learning and improvements are clearly understood and adopted.
* Champion continuous improvement, identifying shortfalls in processes or data, developing new ways of working and implementing more efficient and effective delivery methods.
* Serve as a subject‑matter expert for environmental performance, providing insight, assurance data and clear updates to senior management on process performance and risk.
Skills & qualifications
* Strong experience within wastewater operations, with a clear understanding of operational processes and how they impact environmental performance and compliance.
* Proven experience operating within a regulated environment, with sound knowledge of environmental legislation, regulatory frameworks and compliance expectations.
* Demonstrated people leadership capability, including line management experience, team development, coaching and supporting individuals through change.
* Expertise in developing, implementing and improving management systems, processes and procedures, with a clear focus on continuous improvement.
* Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, confident working collaboratively across all levels of the business and with external partners and regulators.
* Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, able to interpret and explain complex technical and financial information clearly to a broad audience.
* Experience of change management and strategy delivery, with the ability to resolve conflict, drive engagement and embed new ways of working.
* Highly organised, adaptable and professional, able to balance competing priorities, plan effectively and maintain focus in a dynamic, high‑accountability environment.
