Lead Practice – Champion Science – Change Lives
Following the promotion of the current post holder Aberdare Community School is seeking an exceptional and inspirational Leader of Learning – Science to join our passionate, values‑driven staff team.

The Role
This is a key middle leadership role within Science, combining excellent classroom practice with clear departmental leadership and accountability for standards. You will:
1. Lead the development and delivery of a coherent, ambitious Science curriculum across all key stages
2. Ensure high-quality teaching through consistent application of whole-school pedagogy and expectations
3. Monitor and improve teaching through quality assurance, including lesson visits, work scrutiny and learner voice
4. Line manage colleagues within the department, supporting and developing staff to improve practice and outcomes
5. Use performance data effectively to drive sustained improvements in pupil outcomes
6. Lead departmental self-evaluation and contribute to whole-school improvement priorities, including literacy, numeracy and science outcomes
7. Work collaboratively with senior and middle leaders to secure consistent teaching, learning and assessment across the school

8. An excellent Science teacher with a strong track record of improving outcomes
9. A credible and motivated middle leader, or an aspiring leader ready to take the next step
10. Passionate about high-quality teaching, curriculum design and pupil progress
11. Committed to inclusion, equity and raising aspirations for all learners
12. Able to inspire, challenge and support colleagues to improve classroom practice
